Griffin Rich is a 21 year old fine artist and multi-disciplinary creator hailing from San Diego, California (currently based in London).
“Finding my voice as a painter was my gift. For all of my life I have been obsessed with storytelling. With the feelings you can pull through immersion and escapism. My immediate outlet to express this side of myself was by drawing. It was something I was always talented at, but I never once considered myself an artist.
I did not feel that I had justification to take this side of myself seriously, until I bought a large canvas and I could not hold back from expressing myself any longer. The act of painting has given me an outlet to tell my stories. Recording events and telling stories through visual mediums is intrinsically linked to human history. Through developing my art, I aim to add to our cultural cannon- to tell stories full of universal truths.
True creativity is coming to me as a byproduct of consistently pushing myself into intense states of being. In order to capitalize on a spark, I do not give myself much time from start to finish. This goes for an individual piece and my collections as a whole.
Attention is the currency of the modern world. Therefore my art must be truly dynamic to demand and sustain yours.
Look into the eyes of my characters and perhaps you will be able to empathize. As you look through my archive or walk through an exhibition, you the viewer are able to gaze into several different worlds that mirror our own. Worlds full of beauty, pain, and qualities that we can’t quite explain. I encourage you to be patient and generous with your time. As the more you look, the more the story will unfold. Thank you for being here.”
